Though, Jharkhand is being formed from the old Bihar, it is updating itself newly, every time in order to enhance its features to fit into the category of highly economic state in India.

The Jharkhand state is been announced as an independent state in the year 2000. This is been formed in order to give special attention to the activities of the ecologically different zone, as Jharkhand comprises of hilly regions and plateaus. Further major importance is given to the agricultural developments, and 80% of the population lives only with the income from agriculture. Ranchi and Jamshedpur are known as popular cities of Jharkhand, as they are flourishing with industrial and educational growth.

Education

It’s true that Jharkhand is suffering due to low literacy rates, for example according to the government survey in the year 2001, the literacy rate was around 54%, but it did definitely seen enhancements and as a result there was an increase in the literacy rate, accounting to around 59% in the year 2007. Of course, this is not a huge development, but the fact that the trend is showing some positive aspects in its growth is comforting. The significant reason for this is that majority of the population is surviving with the income from agriculture, say around 80% of the population is surviving with agriculture as their occupation and other bigger percentage of population belongs to the category of tribal people.

Thus, most of the people from this background don’t allow the females to study after certain ages, thereby making the female literacy rates to be in the poor range. Even if they allow the males to study, they cannot afford for the education after certain level with their income. But government has recognized the situation and have started initiating many education features at free of cost, thereby motivating the students to learn. For example, the government has made the primary education, so accessible and hence around 95% of children in the age group of 6 to 11 years are enrolled in the school. This percentage is definitely higher than the 54% in the year 1993-1994. Thus, the government is working in many ways to improve the literacy rates in Jharkhand. To improve this further, the government has also established a new IIM in Ranchi, recently with an objective to motivate the students to learn and thereby enhancing the education development of Jharkhand.

Health

There are many private and public hospitals and medical centers in the state, one example for this would be the Tata Motors Hospital, which is an ISO 14001 and 18001 certified hospital. There is also a medical institution for mentally challenged, namely, the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi. But, in spite of all these medical facilities and features, the public health in Jharkhand needs huge improvements. During the past years, the state had been constantly affected by droughts, poverty… which in turn had led to diseases, like, tuberculosis, and other physical diseases. The presence of fluoride in the ground water had also caused serious public health problems in the state, such as, bone fractures, dental and skeletal fluorosis and irreversible disabling conditions. The Jharkhand state government is continuously working with international organizations, such as UNICEF, WHO… to eradicate these problems.
